52 Bible Verses to Memorize This Year

This post is a little late, as we’re one week into the new year, but I figure one week is doable to catch up on.

I used to work faithfully on memorizing Scripture. There’s something about working on a passage every day that brings new depth to your understanding of it. Not to mention, it is so useful to be able to pull verses from your memory bank. There are times where I need reminding myself or verses come in handy when I’m talking to my kids. Passages stored in memory are even useful when trying to discern if something aligns with God’s Word or not.

Reading my Bible daily is something I aim to do. Although, admittedly, there are seasons where it gets hard to do. This year I decided to aim big and read the entire Bible. In the past, I’ve tracked my Bible reading on a simple printable where I just mark off as I’ve read chapters/books. I wanted to try reading a new version, though, so I figured now was a great time to try one of those Bibles that’s formatted to be read in a year, compiling daily readings of the Old and New Testaments, as well as Proverbs and Psalms.

Everyday Bible

Besides daily Bible reading, though, I also want to incorporate memorizing Scripture. This process for me usually involves writing out the verse every day as well as taping hand written copies of it to places I look at frequently throughout the day such as my computer, the mirror, and in front of the kitchen sink. I like to write the verse out in a way that separates the verse into smaller blocks that are easy to memorize.

I wanted to work on memorizing larger chunks, too, so some weeks build off of each other as part of my memorization. In the past, what helps me with this the most is to rewrite the previous week(s) along with the current week. It takes a bit longer, but the payoff is worth it.
